Spelling skills
Understanding and applying the rules and patterns of spelling in written language. This includes phonetic spelling, visual memory of words, and knowledge of common spelling conventions and exceptions.
Reading fluency
The ability to read with accuracy, speed, and proper expression. This includes recognizing words automatically, reading aloud smoothly, and using tone and pacing that reflect the meaning of the text.
Reading comprehension
The ability to understand and interpret the meaning of various written texts. This includes making inferences, identifying main ideas, summarising content, and drawing conclusions based on textual evidence.
Narrative Skills
The ability to plan, organise, and construct coherent stories or texts. This includes understanding story structure (beginning, middle, end), using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and maintaining a logical sequence of events.
Vocabularly Knowledge
Understanding and using a broad range of words in both spoken and written language. This includes knowing word meanings, using words in context, understanding multiple meanings, and acquiring new vocabulary through reading and conversation.
